JEAN L. HARASYM (nee Gutkowski) age 66, beloved wife for 41 years of David; loving mother of Margaret “Meg” Prochko (husband Michael); cherished daughter of Margaret (nee Theobald) and the late Leonard Gutkowski; dearest sister of Larry Gutkowski (wife Judy), Susan Morilak (husband David), Barbara Burant (husband Christopher), Kathy Sherlock (husband Rick), and Paul Gutkowski; dear aunt and great-aunt of many. Survived by her K-9 companions Tito and Bailey.
Jean was born on January 16, 1956 in Lorain, Ohio and passed away on January 25, 2022. She was raised in Parma and graduated from Normandy High School in 1974 and The Ohio State University in 1978. Jean lived in Euclid for 44 years, long time member of St. William Church and a teacher at the school. She started the school music program in 1989 and built an award-winning band program known throughout the Diocese of Cleveland. She was a music teacher for 35 years, teaching in various elementary schools in the Diocese of Cleveland. Her last 9 years of teaching before retirement were at Ridgebrook Elementary School in Parma. Jean was an accomplished musician, bassoonist, and flutist with Lakeland Civic Orchestra, Euclid Symphony, St. Noel Choir and St. William Folk Group and Choir. Jean was an avid sewer, crafter and loved the outdoors, camping and traveling with family and friends. She was an avid dog lover and supporter. She loved her miniature poodles, Lola, Tito, Bailey and her lab, Darcy. She was an award-winning Girl Scout Leader. Jean will be remembered most as a social, hardworking, giving and compassionate woman who had a sense of humor. She cared for her students and was devoted to her family and faith. Jean will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jean to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or Euclid Pet Pals Animal Shelter.
Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at St. Noel Catholic Church at 10 AM. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jean at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) MONDAY 3-5 & 6-8 PM. Masks required, and social distancing will be observed.
