Janet Wood, 82, a longtime resident of Denville, NJ, passed away on March 8, 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was predeceased by William Wood, Jr, her husband of 58 years, who passed away in 2015. She was the beloved mother of William (Joan) and Margaret (Barry) Owen, grandmother of Nathan (Deyla), Stephen, Lauren and Caleb, and great grandmother of Jay, Gabe and Logan. She is survived by her brother, Edgar C. Bristow Jr.
Janet was born in 1934 in Bayonne, NJ. She graduated with a BA from Montclair State Teacher’s College and taught English until she married. She and Bill lived in NJ for most of their married life. Janet worked for many years for Pioneer Girls. During part of this time she directed a private girls’ camp in upstate NY, where she was loved by staff and campers alike. Janet served as Director of Women’s Ministry at Bethlehem Church from 1986-1998, during which time she taught Bible studies, mentored women and began the church food pantry. An active member of the church’s Missions Committee for many years, she enjoyed staying in close contact with the missionaries. She was a source of encouragement and wisdom for many.
Janet will be deeply missed, but all who knew her rejoice that she is free from the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease.
A Memorial Service is being planned for the first weekend in June.
