JAMES R. “JIM” WEBB, of Everglades City, FL, passed away February 26, 2014 at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, OH. Jim was born May 23, 1941 in Ft. Myers, FL to Margaret (nee Lopez) and the late Carl A. Webb.
Jim graduated from Everglades City High School and attended college in California after proudly serving his country as a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving in Vietnam.
In 1978 Jim began working with his father in the family hardware store in Everglades City, FL. The Win Car Hardware store was destroyed by a fire in 1987. He then rebuilt a new store, the Win Car True Value Hardware, with his cherished and longtime companion Carolyn Thompson.
Jim loved all sports but especially football. His hardware store was painted orange and blue for recognition of the Florida Gators. Jim was an avid knife collector and enjoyed sharpening knives for his customers at the hardware store. He also loved history and researching his family history.
Jim was a former member of the Lions and belonged to the Church of God in Naples and the First Baptist Church in Everglades City.
Jim is survived by a grandson Casey Herman and a brother Carl A. “Buck” Webb, Jr.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Davilon Rogers and Demetrius Herman.
Jim will be remembered for his devotion and love of his family, friends and all of his customers at the hardware store who he proudly served throughout the years. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
