JAMES H. HERBSTREIT age 77, beloved husband for 26 years of Louise (Simone) (nee Lucarelli); loving father of Teri Lynn Herbstreit (husband Bryan Holmes), John Kasper, Kirk E. (wife Allison), and step-father of Rev. Fr. Michael Simone SJ, Lisa Hammond (husband Dennis), and Diana Simone (husband Robert Biggin); devoted grandfather of Lauren, Sophia, Noah, Rachel, Tye, Jake, Zak, Chase, Luke, Matthew, Vincent, Alexander and great-grandfather of Zoe and Ella; cherished son of the late Harold and Ida (nee Johnson); dearest brother of Richard (wife Judy); dear brother-in-law, uncle and great-uncle of many; former husband of Judy (nee Green). He is survived by his furry companions Franci, Yogi, and Gracie.

Jim was born on February 17, 1939 in Cincinnati and passed away on March 17, 2016. He was a resident of Highland Heights for 6 months, formerly of Chagrin Falls. Jim graduated from Reading High School in 1956 and from The Ohio State University in 1960. Jim was a three-year letter-winner (1958-60) who played running back, defensive back and was a key special-teamer for Ohio State. He was a football coach for The Ohio State University, Miami of Ohio, and Akron University.

Jim also was the Executive Vice President of Sabre System in Dayton, Ohio. He loved cooking, tennis and gardening. Jim will be remembered by family and friends as outgoing, social, welcoming and giving. He had a big personality, a great sense of humor and was a mentor and father to many. Jim will be greatly missed.

Celebration of Life Service Monday, March 21, 2016 at 9:30 AM at THE FUNERAL HOME. Burial following at Evergreen Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jim at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) SUNDAY 1-6 PM.
