JAMES GENIS, age 90, beloved husband for 66 years of the late Antoinette “Toni” (nee Kacludis); loving father of Jerry (wife Sandy), Renee Makris (husband Nick) and Lindy Anthony (husband Greg); devoted grandfather of Josh (wife Helene), Toni Anders (husband Scott), Jack Makris (wife Samantha), Matthew Anthony, Nicole and Erica Sivak and great-grandfather of Niko, Lukas and Carley; dearest brother of Helen Kata and the late Zoe Abler and Turla Pompeli; dear uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.
James previously lived in Richmond Heights and Chesterland prior to building his home in Willoughby Hills in 1981. A WW II U.S. Navy Veteran, he was one of the sailors photographed in the famous Life Magazine “Times Square Kiss.” James was a Master Craftsman Award-Winning Woodworker and the co-owner/operator of Genis Woodworking and Design. Highly respected in his craft as a woodworker, James mentored and taught woodworking to many. He attended Warren G. Harding High School and was a member of Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral for many years. James also enjoyed wood carving, watching Cleveland sports, listening to Country and Greek music. He loved watching old Western movies but being with his family is what he cherished most! Many will fondly remember him as a humble, hard-working, patient, kind man who loved to laugh, had a great sense of humor and had compassion for others (that he passed on to his children).
