JAMES FRANCIS “JIM” VANO, age 71 passed away August 23, 2011 at Johnston-Willis Hospital, Richmond, Virginia after a short illness. The beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and great-uncle was preceded in death by his wife Carol (nee Gernhard), parents Genevieve T. (nee Kavalecz) and Andrew P. Vano and brothers William A. and Michael S. Vano. He is survived by his children Phillip (wife Maria) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Laura Puffenbarger of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, Leslie of Eastlake, Ohio, Matthew (wife Holly) of Waynesboro, Virginia and Linda White (husband Austin) of Powhatan, Virginia and sisters Mary Jo and Frances.
Jim was born on October 7, 1939 in Ohio. He was a long time resident of Chardon, Ohio where he was a member of St. Mary’s Church, and also Winchester, Virginia where he was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ and Powhatan, Virginia where he was a member of St. John Neumann Church.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, he had a very successful career with General Electric at both Nela Park and The Winchester Lamp Plant. Jim was a graduate of Cathedral Latin High School and Cleveland State University and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon, 44024. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. The family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jim at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) on FRIDAY from 2:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
