JAMES M. CHERRIE, beloved husband for 69 years of Marianne (nee Dretzka); loving father of Kate Cherrie Strazisar (husband Tony), Tim (wife Miriam), Christopher (wife Janice) and Amy Cherrie Slaby (husband Jeffrey); devoted grandfather of Geoff Strazisar, Lauren Strazisar-Lepa (Chris), Leah Strazisar-Cusick (Dan), Chrysta Cherrie-Heaney (Greg), Jarrod and Christian Cherrie, and Trevor Slaby.
Jim was a captain WW II US Army Air Force veteran. Jim was a resident of Highland Heights for the past 22 years, previously of Euclid. Jim was a member of ASME (American Society for Mechanical Engineers). Jim graduated from University of Cincinnati and Fenn College. Jim was the retired chief engineer with TRW Valve Division and he was a 25 year volunteer with S.C.O.R.E. He volunteered for Boy Scouts, built models and was a volunteer with the Cleveland Convention Visitors Bureau for 14 years. Jim was an avid reader, loved working on cars and fishing. He held numerous patents related to the automotive industry. Jim will be remembered most as a very intelligent, quiet, hardworking and very ethical man.
Contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110. Cremation by DeJohn Crematory.
Mass of Christian Burial in Jim’s memory with Military Honors will be Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church, 5384 Wilson Mills Rd., Highland Heights, OH 44143. Private Burial at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jim at THE CHURCH SATURDAY MORNING 9:30 – 10:30 AM. Arrangements by THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS.
