JAMES A. DOBAY, age 92, beloved husband for 72 years of Gertrude (nee Abramovich); loving father of Jim (Barb), Jeff (Sylvia) and Denise; cherished grandfather of Bridget, Jamie (Jenna), Jeremy (Nallem) and Jarrod (Nadine); treasured great-grandfather of Garrett, Grace, Andrew, Jack, Jayden, Jace, Cameron, Max and Johan; dear son of the late Andrew and Mary (nee Pizmoht); devoted brother of Dolly Seferian (Bob deceased); beloved uncle and friend of many.
James Dobay was born on February 3, 1931 in Cleveland. He was a resident of Highland Heights for fifty-five years and was an active parishioner of St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church for nearly six decades. He graduated from Benedictine High School and attended college where he studied business. He worked in advertising sales and was a former employee of the Euclid Beach Amusement Park.
In his free time, James enjoyed the outdoors; he was an active member of the APCO Fish and Wildlife Conservation Club, a founding member of the Geauga Bowmen Archery Club, and was an avid hunter. In addition to his outdoorsmanship, he loved music, especially polka, and played bass fiddle in a polka band. His loved ones recall James’s fondness for decorating for Christmas. Those who knew him remember him as a larger-than-life family man, a consummate neighbor, and a true people-person who will be missed by all who knew him.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church on Friday, April 14th at 10:30am. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of James at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91), THURSDAY, APRIL 13 FROM 4-8 PM.
