Jacquelyn Mercer

JACQUELYN MERCER (nee Shuman), aged 83 years, beloved wife for 55 years to the late John William, dearest mother of Walter, Leslie Lance (husband Thomas) and Amanda, cherished sister of Carolyn Tillman and Mary Gonzales, fond aunt and great-aunt. Mrs. Mercer was a member and former president of the Lyndhurst Garden Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, 11030 East Blvd., Cleveland, OH 44106.

Jacquelyn Mercer was a resident of South Euclid for 47 years. Born in Clearwater, Florida, she was a graduate of Alachua High School. She worked as a legal secretary for the office of Attorney Glenn Patsch. She was an active member of the Lyndhurst Garden Club since the early 1990’s, serving as President from 2001 – 2003, and was a former member of the African Violet Society.

Jackie enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, reading, baking and cooking. Chopin, Mozart and Frank Sinatra were her favorites when it came to music. Her garden and her family gave her the most joy. Nothing made her happier than spending time in her back yard reading a book.

Christmas time celebration with family and close friends was very special to her and a long-standing tradition. She loved entertaining, and was a great cook and baker.

Jackie loved to work in her garden – and to also sit back and enjoy it. She loved a good shopping trip – and a great bargain! She was happiest when surrounded by loved ones and flowers. Her children came first. She was very proud of all of them.

Jackie loved sharing stories of her childhood in Florida. Her Southern roots were deep and she hated SNOW – the worst 4 letter word to her. She told her husband when she saw her first snow – “Okay, I’ve seen it and I’m not impressed!!”.

Funeral services Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 at the funeral home at 3 PM. Private burial in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Jackie at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd.) SATURDAY AFTERNOON, DEC. 9, FROM 1-3 PM.
