Jacob C. Beck, Jr.

JACOB C. BECK, JR, age 89, beloved husband for 57 years of Bettie (nee Ruffin); loving father of Tamara Beck and the late Paula Smith; devoted grandfather of Alexander, Brittany and Courtney Smith; cherished son of the late Jacob and Estelle (nee Moore); dearest brother of the late Robert Earl Beck, Dorthy Jones, and Jerry L. Beck; dear brother-in-law of Edward Ruffin (wife Alice) and Marjia Hehr (husband Albert); cherished uncle, great-uncle and friend of many. U.S. Air Force and U. S. Army Veteran.

Jacob was born on Easter Sunday, March 31, 1929, in Shively, Kentucky to Jacob and Estelle Beck. Jacob loved the Lord and lived his word in everything he did in his life. He studied hard and became a Licensed Chiropractor and an Industrial Engineer. He met his soul mate, his best friend and the love of his life, Bettie, at the first Sunday Services, as a freshman in Iowa. Although it took him three years to finally ask her out, Bettie says, they have been inseparable ever since. Jacob and Bettie lived in Kentucky, Iowa, Indianapolis and then settled, the last 11 years in the Cleveland area. Always a devout Christian, Jacob was always involved in every church he ever belonged to as an Elder, a Deacon, Bible class teacher and song director. Jacob proudly served his country in WWII for both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army, earning him medals, and an Honorable discharge in both.  On his tour in the Airforce, Jacob also played basketball. He was sent to play in Germany during the Berlin Airlift.  He was sent in a cargo plane, where he had a bag of coal for his seat, and the pilot said be prepared when I say go you have only seconds to get up and jump down out of the plane and he won a metal on that championship game. Jacob loved all active sports, if you asked him to step in and play, he would. His peaceful alone passion was his painting.  Jacob was a self-taught, extremely talented artist and his oil paintings are a treasure. He loved all kinds of music, country, blue grass and anything from the 50’s. His friends described him as a father to all fatherless, the most selfness, understanding warm, caring man who was most passionate about the women he adored, Bettie, his daughters, who he would move the world for, his family, the bible and his religion. Jacob has touched so many and will be missed by all.
