JACK THOMAS BAIRD, Esq., passed away May 2, 2022 at the age of 96 (3 days short of his 97th birthday), beloved husband for 71 years to Barbara (nee Lewis), loving father of Sharon Nichting (David), James (Sharon), Lynne Kravos (Frank), Kathleen Guban (Philip), Patricia Zaller (Raymond) and Robert (Lisa), devoted grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 8, cherished brother of Robert and the late Howard, fond uncle and great-uncle to many.
Jack was born in Cleveland and attended St. Aloysius grade school and graduated from Cathedral Latin High School. He received an undergraduate degree from Kent State University. He served the country in World War II in the Air Corp Division (now the US Air Force) where he flew a B-17 plane. Upon return from the war, he married the love of his life Barbara Lewis, at Holy Cross Church in Euclid. While they began their family, Jack worked in the printing business, forming Graphic Associates, and attended evening classes at Cleveland Marshall School of Law where he received a Juris Doctorate. Jack practiced law until his retirement 35 years ago. FAITH & FAMILY were the most important aspects of Jack’s life. He and Barbara instilled the importance of these values in their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His devotion to the Blessed Mother was truly the source of his Christ-like way of life. Their parish affiliation over the years, Holy Cross, St. Williams, St. Noel, or Divine Word, the CHURCH was a vital part of their lives. Jack was an usher, cleaned the church, sacristan, and decorated for Christmas and Easter. Jack’s family gave him the most joy! He was proud of all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved having his family around to the point he and Barb sold their house in Naples so they could be only a couple of miles from their kids. Whether boating or fishing on Lake Erie, taking trips to Eddy’s Grille at Geneva-on-the-Lake, the Geauga County Fair, international travel, or having a cup of tea at the kitchen table Jack loved having his family around. It was not unusual to see the circular driveway in front of their home filled with cars because the kids were stopping in to see Mom and Dad. His family will cherish his insights, wit, and love. May he now join the angels and saints in praying for all of us.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jack suggested to Providence House in honor of Sr. Hope Greener, C.S.J., 2050 W. 32nd St., Cleveland, OH 44113.
