J. Donald Beasley

James Donald “Don” Beasley, of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on August 31, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on November 12, 1935, in Dayton, Ohio, to Edgar L. and Helen E. (Scherer) Beasley, Don lived a life characterized by intellect, kindness, and generosity.

Don was a graduate of Arcanum High School, class of 1953. He continued his education at Miami University, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physics. His academic journey culminated with a PhD in Physics from Case Western Reserve University.

Throughout his career, Don was deeply immersed in his passion for reading and research. He amassed a remarkable collection of books and periodicals, reflecting his lifelong commitment to knowledge. In addition to his love for literature, Don was an avid photographer and enjoyed tinkering with electronics. He retired as Chief Staff Scientist from Gooch & Housego (formerly Cleveland Crystals) in 2014.

In his retirement, Don moved to Judson Manor, where he lived until shortly before his passing. Despite his quiet and shy demeanor, Don’s presence was marked by a gentle wisdom that inspired those around him. His thoughtful contributions extended beyond his professional life; he generously supported his family and numerous charitable organizations, reflecting his selfless nature.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joan H. Loudenslager. He is survived by his dear friend and caregiver, Dawn Ambrose; aunt, Mary Jo Fritz; brother-in-law, William Loudenslager; niece, Karen; nephew, Michael (Melissa); and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Don’s life was a testament to the value of intellectual curiosity, kindness, and generosity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Relatives, friends and co-workers of Don are invited to pay respects to Don on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 1PM until 3 PM at The DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home, 4600 Mayfield Rd. (just East of Green Rd.) South Euclid. A eulogy service will be held at 2:30 PM. Burial for Don will be held on Monday, Sept. 9, at Arlington Cemetery, Clay Township, Ohio.
