HILTON HOLDER age 96, beloved husband for 65 years of the late Catherine (nee Hill); loving father of Loretta Ann (husband Charles) Martin, Helen Holder, and Richard (wife Catherine, nee Clement) Holder; devoted Poppy of Kip Martin, John Elersich, Andrew Martin, Dannette (nee Martin) Grant, Tess (nee Elersich) Goulette, Ashley Ferrell, Elizabeth Shimp, Jon Paul Shimp, Jared Holder, Christian Shimp, and Jennifer Holder, and great grand-father and great great-grandfather of many; cherished son of the late William Alec and Mattie JoAnn (nee Martin) Holder; dearest brother of Nora Wood, Dora Williams, and his 11 other siblings who preceded him in death; dear uncle and great-uncle of many.
Hilton was born on April 26, 1926, in Geneva, Alabama. At the young age of 17, he was enlisted into the United States Navy. He proudly served during World War II from August of 1943, until June of 1946. Within those 34 months he was stationed on the USS Philadelphia, held the Rank of Seaman 1st Class, and humbly served during the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theatres.
Upon a trip to Willoughby, Ohio with a friend, Hilton met the love of his life. He and Catherine married, and he began the rest of his life in Ohio with her.
He began working at Ohio Rubber in September of 1946 and remained a dedicated employee for 44 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a founding member of the United Rubber Workers, Local 3, and over the years served as Chief Union Seward, V.P. and President.
Hilton was a Golden Gloves Trainer, softball pitcher, and car enthusiast, specifically the Model-A. He also had a knack for gardening. He was famous for his “Big Boy” tomatoes.
On October 10, 2022, Hilton passed away in the comfort of his home, leaving his family missing him tremendously.

Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Hilton at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) Friday, November 4, 2022, from 9–11 AM, with a Celebration of Life Service at 11 AM at the funeral home.
Burial following with Military Honors at 1:15 PM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273.
