She was a substitute teacher until she was 80-and only then retired in order to care for her husband who was ill. In 1996 she and her sister Doris traveled with son Randy and his wife Kathie to Great Britain and visited the homeland of her ancestors in Wales. Helen often recalled fond memories of growing up in Doylestown, Ohio where her family had a greenhouse and started the town’s first public library in their living room. Helen loved to read and was a member of one of Ohio’s oldest book clubs, The Bookettes. Helen spent most of her married life in Newark, Ohio where among other things, she was involved in Garden Club, Girl Scouts, Newcomer’s Club and the Tuberculosis Sanatorium.
