Hafiz Gantous

HAFIZ GANTOUS age 93, beloved husband for 59 years of the late Betty Jane (nee Saba); loving father of Diana Lynne and the late Baby Boy Gantous; special surrogate grandfather of Taylor, Jordan and Collin Hoeffner; cherished son of the late Nemer and Shahena (nee Shibley); dearest brother of Souhad Asmar (husband John deceased), Joseph (wife Judith), Sam (wife Theresa) and the late  Emile (wife Margaret), Madelyn Maroun (husband Fariz) and Nora Asmar (husband George deceased); dear brother-in-law, uncle and great-uncle of many.

Hafiz was born in September 2, 1926 in Lebanon and died on February 18, 2020 at his home in Lyndhurst. In 1955, he moved from his home in Aitaneet, Lebanon to Cleveland Heights where he became a parishioner of Saint Maron Catholic Church. In 1971, he and his family moved to Lyndhurst where they became involved at Saint Clare Catholic Church. Hafiz was the proud owner and operator of the Caxton Coffee Shop in the Caxton Building in downtown Cleveland. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, listening to Arabic music, big band and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. He especially enjoyed being on the golf course with family and friends. Most of all, Hafiz loved taking care of his family. He was the Patriarch of the Gantous family – a self-made man who was loving, devoted, caring and hardworking. Hafiz will be remembered for being a spiritual hero, for having strong values with a deep devotion to his faith. His humor and infectious smile will be missed by all who knew him.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Saint Maron Catholic Church  at 10 AM. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Hafiz at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just east of Green Rd.) MONDAY 4-8 PM. Prayers of Incense at 5:30 PM.
