H. David Howe, Jr. age 90, beloved husband for 61 years of Dolores (nee Plochak); loving father of Jeffrey Howe, Nancy (Michael) Donnelly, Elizabeth Howe and Adam Howe; devoted grandfather of Lauren and Evelyn Brogan, Caroline and Timothy Donnelly, and Lane and Will Howe; cherished son of the late Herbert David and Jane (nee Fangboner).
Dave was born on November 23, 1933 in Shaker Heights, OH and passed away on January 12, 2024. Dave knew he wanted to be an architect early on in life and spent a lifetime fulfilling that passion. He attended Shaker Heights High School and Western Reserve School of Architecture and later founded H. David Howe Jr. Architect, Inc. and was instrumental in the design of many homes and buildings throughout Northeast Ohio. Dave was extremely creative designing furniture and a totem pole butler out of an old tree stump which became a Cleveland Heights landmark. The butler held a Martini glass and had a sign exclaiming “Here’s to You!” He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. Anyone who knew Dave knew that he was a true family man. He enjoyed the many family vacations to the Outer Banks where he could rest and enjoy the company of his family. He was an avid reader and runner who was often observed running through his Cleveland Heights neighborhood well into his eighties. Dave also enjoyed holiday parties and any reason to have a social gathering where he was always interested in what everyone was doing. Dave was hard-working, devoted to his family, inquisitive and curious about the world. He was kind to everyone he met. The way Dave lived his life can aptly be summed up by this quote by W.B. Yeats “There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t yet met” He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
