Geraldine “Jerrie” Nemetz

GERALDINE “JERRIE” M. NEMETZ (nee Schwartz) age 85, beloved wife of the late Louis; cherished daughter of the late John and Zella (nee Seech) Schwartz; dearest sister of the late Robert Schwartz; loving niece of Margaret Lisy (nee Seech) and Ernest Seech; loving aunt of Robert, Jr. (wife Cindy) and Richard Schwartz (wife Eva), Eileen Podolak (husband Richard), and the late Michael Schwartz (wife Patricia); dear cousin of Patricia and James Davis, Karen and David Greenwood, Melissa and Steve Seidowski, and the late Mary Ann Nemeth; survived by many other family and friends.

Geraldine “Jerrie” was born in Cleveland on May 24, 1935, and passed away peacefully, with family at her side, at Breckenridge Village in Willoughby on November 18, 2020.  She was a three-year resident of Eastlake, and prior to that, she resided in New Bern, North Carolina.  Jerrie also lived in New Jersey and worked as a Manager at Stern’s Department Store. Her hobbies included golfing, playing Bingo, day trips and dinner with friends, bird watching, and traveling, most often back and forth from New Bern, North Carolina to visit her family in Cleveland, Ohio. A favorite trip was when she went to Hawaii with her beloved husband Lou.  Jerrie loved animals, especially cats. She was a Cleveland sports fan (primarily the Cleveland Indians) and always enjoyed weekly game nights with friends, and spending time with her family.  Family members describe Jerrie as being a very social, generous, giving person who was also witty, strong-willed, hardworking and devoted to her husband Lou, her family and her Catholic faith.  She will be dearly missed.

Contributions may be made in memory of Jerrie to Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, December 5, 2020 at St. Noel Catholic Church at 11 AM.  Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in New Bern, North Carolina. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jerrie at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) SATURDAY 9:30 – 10:30 AM.
