George A. Gabanic

February 22, 1933 — July 15, 2024

Emblem

GEORGE A. GABANIC age 91, beloved husband for 67 years of the late Rosemary (nee Toth); loving father of John (wife Cheryl), Julie, George (wife Kathy), Michael, Thomas (wife Colleen), Mary Simko (husband Richard), Robert (wife Susan), Susan Rico (husband Scott), and Lynn Baioni (husband Phillip); devoted grandfather of seventeen and great-grandfather of four; cherished son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth (nee Janko); dearest brother of the late Andrew and Joseph; dear uncle and great-uncle of many. U.S. Army Veteran.

George was born on February 22, 1933 in Fremont Ohio and passed away on July 15, 2024. He was a resident of Chesterland where he built a home for his family in 1972, formerly of South Euclid. A parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and previously a member of St. Anselm Church. George was a proud hard-working husband, father and grandfather devoted to his faith, family and country.

George attended Sacred Heart Seminary in Girard, Pennsylvania, returned home to care for his family and graduated from Cathedral Latin School in 1951. He began his career with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a splicers apprentice. During the Korean conflict, George entered the U.S. Army with most of his two years of service stationed in Germany. He returned home to the Cleveland area and married the love of his life Rosemary in 1955. Together they raised nine wonderful children. George resumed his career with the phone company until his retirement as a Manager with Ohio Bell/AT&T in 1986.

George kept busy during his "retirement" years serving as Chester Twp Zoning Inspector for 20 years and drove for Hawken School. He and Rosemary enjoyed many trips and cruises together, doted over their grandchildren and cheered on all Cleveland sports teams. Most days you could find George tending to his yard, tinkering in his garage, behind the camera documenting his grandkids' school or sporting events, monitoring the stock market or reminiscing about the good old days. He cherished Rosemary, they loved raising their children and were blessed with 67 years of marriage until her passing in 2022. George leaves behind his legacy as he will live on through his children and grandchildren; Dana Perez, Elizabeth Kiel, Angela Orovets, and Paul Orovets, David Gabanic and Katie Gabanic, Drew, Mitch, Michaela, and Ben Gabanic, Samantha, Nick and Anna Rico, Gabby, Genna and Jake Gabanic and Anthony Baioni and great-children; Sophie, Bella, Teddy and Angel Kiel; they will all miss him dearly but find comfort knowing he is together again with his sweet Rosie as their love was eternal.
