GENEVIEVE M. “JEAN” TOMISHIN (nee Smith), born in Huron, OH on November 22, 1921 she went to the angels surrounded by her family on October 2, 2012. Beloved wife of the late John M.; loving mother of Susan Doyle (husband Charles), Ellen Gurin (husband Timothy) and the late Janet; devoted grandmother of Lisa Cardillo, Kristin Barth (husband Bill), Lorri Lesko (husband Brian), David Spooner (Kandi), Tracy Spooner (husband Jason Herpy), Patrick and Geoffrey Gurin, Veronica and Cody Doyle and great-grandmother of 10; cherished sister of the late Vivian Battle (husband John); treasured cousin of the late Wayne Zimmerman; dear mother-in-law of Bob Lester; dearest aunt and great-aunt of many.
A graduate of St. Alexis School of Nursing, Jean’s nursing career spanned a number of Cleveland-area hospitals, including UH MacDonald House, where she loved caring for mothers and babies. She retired as an R.N. from General Electric in 1984. Jean was taught to fly by her husband, and was a licensed pilot of single-engine aircraft. A long-time member of St. Jerome parish, she was active as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She joined the St. Anselm community when she moved to Munson Township nearly ten years ago. Jean traveled extensively and visited many countries throughout Europe, including Ireland, her ancestral land. She enjoyed many years of shopping with her daughters, and will especially be remembered as a loving, gentle, sweet and gracious lady.
Contributions may be made in Jean’s memory to American Heart Association.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at St. Anselm Catholic Church at 12:30 PM. Burial following at Knollwood Cemetery.
The Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jean at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) FRIDAY 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 PM. ”
