Gene A. Jordan

GENE JORDAN, passed away Nov. 15, 2024, aged 64 years, The beloved son of David A. and the late Rosalie S. (nee Grzych), dear brother of Mary King (Frank), Patrick, James and Dawn, loving uncle and great-uncle.

Gene was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on November 15, 2024. He is reunited with his loving mother, Rosalie, and the choirs of angels at the gates. His passing leaves a hole in our family and in our hearts.

In his lifetime, Gene worked a variety of jobs including security officer at Case Western Reserve University, body shop technician, cook, and hobby shop specialist. But he was mostly known for the honorary job of “Mayor of Essex Road,” a nickname given to him by the neighborhood. He could be seen most days greeting neighbors and their pets with his cherished dog, Freckles, on the front porch. Freckles and Tiny were sure to have met Gene at the Rainbow Bridge.

It was Gene’s determination that allowed him to attend night school while working in order to both complete his high school degree, but also to take certification classes in computers and robotics. Having struggled with dyslexia, these were proud accomplishments. He continued to learn new things throughout his life and took pleasure in putting the things he learned into action.

Gene’s love of movies, music, art, crafts, baking, gardening, and animals were things that he loved to share with others as well. He was happy to bake some of his mom’s famous cookies or pies to share with others or draw signs to celebrate people’s milestones. He sang in the church choir with his dad and mom for several years, but also loved to listen to all different genres of music.

In his youth, he loved sailing, the freedom of being on the water, and fishing. He shared his love of archery with his dad, David, and sister, Dawn, where they would spend many evenings target shooting. Gene also enjoyed being a part of bowling leagues and teaching others how to perfect their games. While working at the hobby shop, he loved collecting baseball cards, making models, and playing games. Gene also encouraged others in pursuing their own hobbies and interests.

Gene enjoyed making people smile or laugh and was known for his willingness to help however he could. One of his favorite ways to bring joy was by creating lighting displays and decorating the trees for the holidays, which included hanging angel ornaments from the tree near the sidewalk for others to enjoy. Angels are a special symbol for the family, but were especially significant to Gene and his mom. Gene gave away over 400 3D-printed angels to people at hospitals and his nursing home to uplift others’ spirits, even during the times where he was struggling with his own health. He often talked about how giving angels to others was a touching and moving experience for him and for them. His prayers with his sister, Mary, and brother-in-law, Frank, to the Archangel Michael only reinforced his faith that he was being watched over by God and his angels, as well as his belief that he needed to share that through giving angels to others.

His generous spirit, kindness, support, caring, sense of humor, huge heart, and laugh will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We will feel this loss until we are reunited again in heaven.
