Gary O’Kelly

GARY PATRICK O’KELLY age 78, beloved husband for 28 years of Sharon (nee Spryszak); loving father of Barry (Anne Thomas), Lisa O’Kelly Nye (husband Edward Nye) and Teresa; devoted grandfather of Melissa Rose Schweller (husband Matthew) and Garrett O’Kelly Nye; dearest brother of Michael, Sharon Youngdahl (husband Jon) and Dennis; former husband of Carroll O’Kelly. Also survived by his canine friend Charlie.

Gary was born on May 6, 1938 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and passed away on December 5, 2016. He was a resident of Russell Township for 42 years, formerly of Dunbar, WV. Gary was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Wickliffe and Chagrin and East-end Purchasing Agents. He was the owner/operator, artist and sign painter of O’Kelly Sign Company. Gary held a state record for Pole Vault in West Virginia for High School Track. He loved golfing, skiing, swimming, diving and track. Gary enjoyed scotch, cigars and beers. Tailgating at West Virginia University Football games was a favorite tradition of his. Gary will be remembered by family and friends as being a little ornery, funny, talented, and humorous man with a quick wit.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Geauga County Dog Shelter and Warden’s Office 12513 Merritt Rd, Chardon, OH 44024. Cremation by DeJohn Crematory. Tribute Service Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 6 PM at THE FUNERAL HOME. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Gary at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.)  SATURDAY 2-6 PM.
