FREDERICK R. “DIMO” DiGERONIMO age 98, beloved husband of the late Alba (nee Fienga); loving father of Barbara Ann Zimmerman (husband Edward), Gloria Jean Freno (husband Christopher), Mary Anne O’Brien, Rosemarie DiGeronimo (husband John Dalton), Joelene Iorillo (husband Antonio) and the late Frederick R., Jr.; devoted grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of 5 1/2; cherished son of the late Frederico R. and Carmella (nee Palange); dearest brother of the late Albert (wife Rose, deceased), John (wife Eleanor, deceased) and Salvatore Gerome (wife Ida, deceased), Gloria Cesa (husband Joseph, deceased), Romeo Gerome (wife Phyllis, deceased), Andrew, Yolanda, Sam and Romulus DiGeronimo; dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend of many.
Fred was born on January 29, 1920 in Cleveland and passed away on April 10, 2018. He was a resident of Mayfield Heights for 68 years, formerly of Cleveland. Fred was a parishioner of St. Clare Catholic Church since 1949. He was a member of the Order of Alhambra Mahdi Caravan #142, St. Anthony Society, and a WWII U.S. Army Veteran serving as a Staff Sergeant in the South Pacific Theatre. Fred graduated from East Tech High School and was a carpenter and cabinet maker. He loved wood carving, clowning for Alhambra, and playing the harmonica. Fred enjoyed cooking, making sausage and wine. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Fred will be remembered most as a giving, devoted, compassionate, and strong-willed man who was devoted to his family, friends and to his church. He was funny, witty and mischievous. Fred will be dearly missed.
Contributions may be made in memory of Fred to Hospice of the Western Reserve or Order of the Alhambra Mahdi Caravan #142 or Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in Euclid.
Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 10 AM. Burial following with Military Honors at Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Fred at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just east of Green Rd.) FRIDAY 3-7 PM.
