Fred F. Birk, DVM, of Mayfield Village died suddenly on August 12, 2024, at Hillcrest Hospital. Born on May 19, 1940, Fred grew up in Euclid, graduating from St. Joseph’s High School in 1958. He went on to study at John Carroll University, join the United States Marine Corps, and graduate from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1966. Fred was a practicing veterinarian who spent his life helping and healing animals. His gentleness and dedication to alleviating the suffering of animals—even at great cost to himself—was the source of his deepest compassion. Fred also enjoyed gardening, Cleveland Guardians baseball, and porcelain art.
He is survived by his three children: Tammy (Ken Petri), Fred, and Barbara; three grandchildren: Eva Birk-Petri, Tyler Birk, and Carter Birk; brother, Jerry Birk (Debbi); and close and loyal friend, Amos Hicks.
Fred was pre-deceased by his loving parents, Frank and Amelia (Budic), and sister, Linda Rossino (Ted).
Special thanks to the care team at Governor’s Village for their continued support and presence for the last fourteen years.
A private family burial will be held at All Soul’s Cemetery.
