FRANK STERGAR, JR. age 86, beloved husband for 60 years of Sonja (nee Zupan); loving father of Tim, Jeff (wife Carole), Greg (wife Laura), Chris (wife Petra) and Cindy Adkins (husband Chris); devoted grandfather of 10; cherished son of the late Frank, Sr. and Mary (nee Azman); dearest brother of Ann Erdani (husband Miro, deceased), Mary Rees (husband Dave, deceased) and the late Millie Jeraj (husband Frank, deceased) and Wally (wife Kathy); cherished brother-in-law of Erika and the late Mann Mundey, Rudy and Mariann Zupan; dear uncle and great-uncle of many.
Frank was born on May 6, 1937, in Krnica, Yugoslavia and came to the US in 1950 with his family after spending time in a refugee camp in Austria after the war. After a short time in St. Louis, he moved with his family to Cleveland. He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in 1956 where he played the tuba and earned the nickname “Ace”. After graduation he served in the US Army in the intelligence service in Germany and ultimately received an honorable discharge from the Army Reserves in 1966. Frank worked as a CNC machinist when he returned from the service and earned his technical certification as a CNC programmer. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church since 1967, where he served as an usher. He enjoyed playing golf, was an avid reader and loved watching OSU football and the Cleveland Browns. He was mechanically inclined and was prolific in do-it-yourself projects where he often found unique and workable solutions to many everyday problems. Frank loved all kinds of music, and on the right occasions, he would show his skill at dancing. Many would say he was a humble and private person who was very intelligent. He had sparkling blue eyes that would twinkle when he shared his sense of humor. Frank was very devoted to his family and his faith. Sadly, Frank passed away on November 7, 2023, after a short illness. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
