Frank Penavic

FRANK PENAVIC age 82, beloved husband for 55 years of Mary (nee Franco); loving father of Frank (wife Dyane) and Capricia Penavic Marshall (husband Robert Marshall); devoted grandfather of Isabella and Francesca Penavic, Cole Penavic Marshall, and Anthony Vespucci; cherished son of the late Jozo and Delfa (nee Cuze); dearest brother of Joseph ( wife Mary), Ivan “John” (wife Donna) and the late Marko, Miljnko, Zora, Ljubza, and Anica; dear uncle and great-uncle of many.

Frank was born in Yugoslavia on January 3, 1936 and left this world on February 23, 2018. After service in the military, he immigrated to the United States with hope and only $4 in his pocket, finally settling in Cleveland, OH. He later moved to Chardon, OH where he spent the next 38 years. Frank met and married the love of his life, Mary Franco. They were happily married for 55 years. Frank was a carpenter and builder by trade, a proud member of the Carpenter’s Union. He established his own company, Penavic Construction. He proudly pointed out the buildings and homes he created all over northern OH. He had a passion for politics and enjoyed his participation with the Croatian Federation and their days on Capitol Hill. His home was his castle where he hosted celebrations and Sunday dinners for family and friends. He was a man who was born to create. From his gardens to his chickens, he worked tirelessly and with joy to nurture and grow life. His greatest treasures were his children, Capricia and Frank, who made him so proud. His grandchildren, Bella, Cole, Francesca and Anthony were the light of his life. He was devoted to family and will be especially missed by his brothers, Joseph and Ivan. Frank is remembered for his special blue-eyed twinkle and his hearty laugh that he shared with all he knew.

Memorial Mass Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Mary Parish 401 North Street Chardon OH 44024 at 11:30 AM.
