Mike was born March 19, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from St Joseph High School in 1967. He continued his education at Bowling Green University, Cuyahoga Community College, and Ohio State University. Mike had a love for life and adventure, and enjoyed many activities including golf, skiing (he started a ski club at BGSU), and bicycling. He and Annie traveled often, including ski trips, exploring the country in their motorhome or on bicycles, and experiencing other countries. When at home, Mike enjoyed taking care of his home and property, watching Cleveland Browns, Ohio State, and Notre Dame football games, and relaxing with family in his “fire pit”. Mike founded Payne & Payne Builders alongside his brother Dave, was a past president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Cleveland, and served the industry at the state and national levels. He was a past member of the Geauga Metropolitan Housing Authority. He had a strong devotion to his family and friends, and was the patriarch of the local Payne family. Although he has left this earth, his legacy continues to live through his family, friends, and the many people who were blessed to have known him.
