Eugene Carroll Sr.

EUGENE B. CARROLL SR., dearly beloved husband for 52 years of the late Ann (nee Simoson), dear father of Ann Carroll Kearney (husband Mark), Eugene B. Jr. (deceased) (wife Kim), Grace Marie Irene, Patrick J. (wife Diana) and Agnes M. “Meg” Pressman (husband Stuart), loving grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 5, cherished son of the late Dr. William J. and Agnes (nee Jordan), devoted brother of Paul B. (wife Kitsy, deceased) and the late William, Noel, Mary Pryor and Ruth Alred, treasured uncle and great-uncle. WWII U.S. Army Veteran.

Eugene Bernard Bernard Carroll was born on January 2, 1924 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and passed away on February 7, 2017 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. He married Ann Simoson on November 10, 1951; they shared 52 happy years prior to her death in 2003. They had five beautiful children, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  Eugene was a dedicated and life-long Roman Catholic. His beliefs and actions were strongly influenced by the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola, classical philosophy, and poetry.  He and Ann became parishioners of St. Philomena Catholic Church when they moved from Pennsylvania to Cleveland in 1952. Seven years later, they moved to Cleveland Heights and joined St. Ann’s Parish, now known as Communion of Saints Parish. During the following fifty-seven years, Eugene served as a parish Eucharistic minister, a board member of the Endowment Committee for Communion of Saints Parish, president of the Case Western Reserve University Newman Campus Ministry as well as president of the Newman Foundation of Northern Ohio, president and CEO of Carmelite Men, and vice-president of Leunis Christian Life Communities. His professional accreditations included designations as a Chartered Financial Planner (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), as well as certification (CFP) through the American College of Financial Services (AFCS). He was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table for fifty years, thirty-five of which were distinguished by membership in the group’s highest achievers, the Top of the Table. Eugene attended grade school and high school (St. Mary’s) in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Following five years of Army service during World War II, he enrolled in classes at Fordham University and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Scranton. While he will be greatly missed by his family and friends, the gentle support he offered us throughout his purposeful life will continue to guide us.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet for the Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, February 18, 2017, at St. Ann Catholic Church of Communion of Saints Parish at 10 AM. Entombment following with Military Honors in All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Eugene at the family residence, 3479 Glen Allen Dr., Cleveland Heights (44121) (North of Mayfield off Yellowstone Rd.)
