ETHEL M. QUINLAN (nee Murphy) age 96, beloved wife of the late Thomas P.; loving mother of Sr. Mary SND, Sr. Eileen SND, Kathy Klusker (husband Chuck, deceased), Ret. Maj. Jim (USAF) (wife Lisa), and Mike (wife Katie); devoted grandmother of Andria, Erin, Dana, Brendan and step-grandmother of Tim, Tom, Scott and Sean Klusker; cherished daughter of the late Edward and Ethel (nee Long) Murphy; dearest sister of the late John G. Murphy; dear aunt, great-aunt and friend of many. WWII U.S. Army Veteran.
Ethel was a resident of Richmond Heights for 14 months, previously residing in Euclid and East Cleveland. She was a parishioner at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church and previously a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was a parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church in East Cleveland for 50 years. She was a member of the Ladies Guild, AVILAS, NCCU, Notre Dame Guild and Benedictine Boosters.
Ethel was a 1940 graduate of Holy Name High School and attended St. John Hospital School of Nursing, receiving a 3-year nursing degree. She was employed as an RN at St. Vincent Charity Hospital. She was a 1st lieutenant serving in the U.S. Army as a military nurse during World War II.
Ethel volunteered with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and enjoyed being a mom, sewing, crocheting and baking for her family. She was an avid reader and loved Irish music.
Her family remembers Ethel as a kind and inclusive person who loved to bring people together. She was prayerful, faithful and very much family oriented. She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Ethel to Sisters of Notre Dame, Benedictine High School, Notre Dame College (Quinlan Scholarship), or Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Mass of Christian Burial Monday, March 19, 2018 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church at 10 AM. Burial following with Military Honors at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Ethel at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) SUNDAY 2-7 PM.
