Emery “Jim” Rozsits

Emery “Jim” Rozsits was born on October 6, 1937 in the town of Kapuvar, Hungary. After receiving his electrician trade school diploma in Gyor, Emery immigrated alone to the USA in 1956 via Cleveland residing in the popular Hungarian, ‘Buckeye Road’ neighborhood. At the young of age 19, with little money and minimal English language skills, he seized any opportunity to work including at Square D, New York Central Railroad, numerous small construction companies and as an independent contractor.

Emery meet and married Maria Szabo of Cleveland in 1961 eventually moving to the East side to Chesterland where he resided for over 50 years. He often worked nights and weekends where he valued a long tenure as a carpenter for Panzica Construction. His hard work, motivation and driven promoted him to superintendent and retired in 2002. He was a 42-year member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America. Emery enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and boating with a huge passion for soccer. He was well known as a collector of tools, construction materials, used cabinets and even a 10ft satellite dish that required a concrete mixer truck and a chainsaw to install. Emery instilled strong work ethics, often pulling his boys out of bed early in summer mornings (including weekends) to work at construction projects, and shared his vast knowledge from auto repair to home building with his three sons. He was a great provider, who took a lot of pride in seeing his family succeed and watching his boys graduate college and start families of their own.

Emery, also nicknamed and known as “Jim” or “Jimmy” by many, enjoyed his retirement years with his longtime girlfriend Jane Kusbel, also of Chesterland, where they vacationed to Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, Aruba and Costa Rica and spent the winter months in Florida.

Unfortunately, on December 9, 2016, Emery passed after numerous health setbacks. He was a caring and loving father of James (wife Andrea), Thomas (wife Cynthia), and John; devoted companion for 20 years to Jane Kusbel and her daughters Andrea Skipper and Simone Karberg; beloved grandfather of Lauren, Allison, Katherine, Olivia, Eric, Andrew, and Ava; dear brother of Gizella Pongracz of Sopron, Hungary. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of your choice.

Emery “Jim” Rozsits will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Friends may visit to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Emery “Jim” with visitation on Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7 p.m. at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) Private entombment at All Souls Cemetery will take place Friday, December 16, 2016.
