Edward S. (Podgurski) Hill

Edward S. (Podgurski) Hill was born May 17, 1923 as Edward S. Podgurski in Cleveland; beloved husband for 71 years of Lillian June (nee Sworan); loving father of Carol Hill Bernstein (husband Timothy J. Allen) of Arizona and the late Edward A. DDS (wife Jean) and Cynthia J. Haffey; devoted grandfather of Derek Haffey (wife Rebecca), Jacqui Ward (husband Jeff), Isaac and Aaron Bernstein; treasured great-grandfather of Elizabeth, Julia, Meghan, Gabriel and Henry Haffey; cherished son of the late Apolonia (nee Zytowiecki) Podgurski and Ivan Podgurski; preceded in death by 3 brothers. He will also be loved and missed by his extended family of nieces and nephews and all who knew him.

Edward was a 5-month resident of Arizona previously of Cleveland. He graduated from East Tech High School and entered the service for the US. Army as a technician for Company D 369th and the Medical Battalion 69th Division as a technician and medic during WWII. He received 2 bronze stars, and was honorably discharged in April, 1946. He earned his Professional Engineering Certificate and he completed work for many engineering companies in Cleveland, Ohio. He was proud of his engineering work on the landing gear for the C-5 transport plane. Edward was a member of VFW Post 2595, and enjoyed photography, oil and water color painting and charcoal drawing. He was known for his intellect, great sense of humor, as well as for his musical talent as a pianist and organist. Edward will be dearly missed.

Prayer and Eulogy Service Wednesday April 19, 2017 at 7 PM at the FUNERAL HOME. A committal service will take place Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 2 PM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Edward at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) WEDNESDAY 5-7 PM.
