Edward P. McCarthy, age 89, beloved husband of the late Rosalie (nee Capobianco); loving father of Edward (wife Doreen) and the late Kenneth; devoted grandfather of Brian (wife Lisa), Timothy (wife Michaella), Kevin (Tean Frederick), Michael (fiancée Laura Snyder) and Kaitlyn; dear great-grandfather of Ryan and Andrew Garver; dearest son of the late John and Delia (nee McGee); cherished brother of the late John, Mary and Margaret “Jean” Azzato; fond uncle, great-uncle and cousin of many. U.S. Navy Veteran.
Edward was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 31, 1925 and was a NYPD police officer for 26 years. He was active in the Police Benevolent Association, the VFW and the NYPD Emerald Society and was a member of Holy Name of Mary while in New York. Edward moved to Virginia 14 years ago and continued serving his community as a member of the Loudoun County Senior Center and Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Christ the Redeemer Church.
Edward loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He loved to travel, visiting relatives in Ireland and New Zealand and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City. He was proud of his Irish heritage and one thing he will be remembered for were his Irish eyes. His family will also remember him for his sense of humor and that he was always a gentleman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am, Saturday, January 10th at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Virginia. Family will receive friends at the church from 9 – 10 am. There will be a second Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 12th at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Valley Stream, New York followed by Interment at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Edward in Cleveland, OH at THE DEJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY OF CHARDON (formerly Ritondaro) 126 SOUTH ST. (Rt. 44, south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7th from 7 – 9 pm.
