Edward G. Sovich

EDWARD G. SOVICH age 94, beloved husband of the late Doris (nee Gehring); loving father of Stephen, Pamela, Kathleen (fiancé Michael Kelly), James (wife Sandra), Thomas (wife Laurie) and the late Michael (wife Holly, deceased); devoted grandfather of Kristine, Matthew, Ryan, Jack, Nicholas, Halle, Daniel, Zachary, Carli, Maxwell (deceased) and great-grandfather of Hannibal and Bella; cherished son of the late Stephen and Martha (nee Shingler); dearest brother of Rita Hirsch (husband Joseph, deceased) and Thomas (wife Antoinette); dear uncle and great-uncle of many.

Edward was born on February 22, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away on January 22, 2022. Upon graduation from West Tech High School in 1945, he proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. Ed later went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Western Reserve University. As a resident of the Lyndhurst and Cleveland area, and a man strong in his faith, Ed remained a member of St. Clare for 60 years. There he served as an usher, Eucharistic Minister, bingo volunteer, and member of the Renewal Program. He dedicated many years to General Electric, as their Employee Relations Liaison, and volunteered as a math tutor for Brush High School. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing pinochle, poker, racquet and hand ball, golfing, and listening to Big Band music. His real dedication was proven year after year with his continued support for the Cleveland Browns. Ed loved his family. He and his family used to cram 8 people into an old 4 door sedan and for the annual “One Tank Trip” vacation.  He was a handyman; “Mr. Fix It”. If you needed something, Ed was there hardworking and willing to help. His devotion to family and faith went beyond his generous and giving nature. Ed’s love and funny dry sense of humor will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Ed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
