Edward Thomas Donovan, 84, entered into eternal rest on February 4, 2024 after battling multiple health issues. Edward grew up in the Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland before moving to Willowick in 1971. Edward lived in the same house until moving to a retirement community in 2013 and then finally residing at Danbury Assisted Living in Mentor.
Edward, born in 1939, was the third child of Edward Thomas and Mary Catherine. He spent his childhood in Collinwood, many times helping his mother in the kitchen. His siblings were Doris (Hugh) Morgan, Patricia (Robert) Rossoll, affectionately known as “Patsy”, Kathleen (Richard) Shimko, Mary Colleen (Erle) Dieter and Robert (Roseann). Edward’s family gave him the most joy. His love for his family meant he could always be counted on to remember the vaguest stories and facts about family members that had long been forgotten. His pure enjoyment of family Christmas parties, summer picnics and any party that celebrated someone in his family, was evident. He relished listening to Larwrence Welk, Hungarian music and any polka that was played. Later in life, listening to Enya, Celtic Women and Andrea Bocelli was a welcomed diversion from his career as an accounting manager at Progressive Insurance Company, which he retired from in 2004. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling. His favorite locations were Hawaii & Ireland and enjoyed traveling to Florida.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Edward to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110.
Edward was proceeded in death by his parents, siblings Doris, Kathleen, Patricia and nephew Michael Morgan. He is survived by his sister, Mary Colleen & Robert, his 20 nieces and nephews, 38 great nieces and nephews and 24 great, great nieces and nephews. There will be a Catholic Mass at 11am on Friday, February 9, 2024 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Mentor. Immediately following the mass, loved ones will proceed to All Souls Cemetery in Chardon for final interment.
