EDNA B. STEWART (nee Taufenbach) A longtime resident of Highland Heights, Edna Stewart died peacefully surrounded by family on April 11, 2016. Born Edna Taufenbach on May 6, 1921, Edna was the daughter of German immigrants, Emma and Adolph Taufenbach. With her sister Alice (Taufenbach) Williams, the family settled in Garfield Heights where Edna graduated from Garfield High School and met her husband to be Elmer C. Stewart. Edna and Elmer were married for 43 years before Elmer’s unexpected death in 1986. They enjoyed playing bridge and golfing together as members of Aurora Country Club and Canterbury Country Club. They shared an interest in public service with Edna serving on the Mayfield School Board and Elmer serving as a councilman and Zoning Board member. Edna was an avid reader, a member of the Cleveland Museum of Art and a subscriber to the Cleveland Symphony. Her love of travel took her to museums and archeological sites in Egypt, China, Italy, Scotland, France, Spain, Portugal and the American Southwest. She is survived by her son Craig and his partner Sharon Bartley of Boston, and by her son Brian and his wife Bonnie of Highland Heights. She is also survived by Craig’s three daughters, Eve Stewart (husband Jason Mooney), Jane Stewart (husband Freddy Fuentes) and Caroline Stewart (husband John Arunga), and Brian’s six children, Nathaniel (wife Diana), Katherine McNaughton (husband Eric), John, Melinda, Brian and Emilee, who have given Edna 15 great grandchildren: Madeline, Camille and Charles Fuentes; Clair and Colette Mooney; Amani and Adela Arunga; Ethan, Eliot and Ila Stewart; Caleb, Andrew and Gavin McNaughton; and Lee and Havanna Stewart. She will be remembered as the dear aunt of David Williams, Loraine Rice (nee Fleming), Timothy Fleming, Dale Yoho and Gary Yoho, and the dear great aunt of Chelsea Rice and Evan Yoho.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Cleveland Museum of Art, Attn. Ms. Allison Tillinger, Gift in Memory of Edna Stewart, 11150 East Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44106 Celebration of Life Service Saturday April 23, 2016 at 10 AM at THE FUNERAL HOME. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Edna at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) FRIDAY 3-8 PM.
