EDITH A. “EDIE” SMREKAR (nee Michal) age 89, beloved wife for 56 years of the late Donald; loving mother of Susan Godshall (husband David), Timothy (wife Cherrie), James (fiance Alicia) and Annette Jarosz (husband Mark); devoted grandmother of Michael (wife Charniah), Eric Godshall (wife Bethany), Melissa Christian (husband Justin), Katie Giulitto  (Mike Darrah), Jeffrey (wife Miranda), Amy, Megan and Matthew Jarosz (wife Caroline), Bethany, and Abigail Jarosz, and great-grandmother of Isabella, Rocco, Austin, Jordan, Ryan, Chloe and Lanie; cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (nee Babka) Michal; dearest sister of the late Robert Michal (wife Mary); dear aunt and great-aunt of many. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Edie to Manna Ministry at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church 5384 Wilson Mills Rd, Highland Heights, OH 44143 or Mayfield Township Historical Society 606 SOM Center Rd., Mayfield Village 44143.

Edie was born on June 30, 1930 in Cleveland and passed away on July 14, 2019. She graduated from South High School in Cleveland in 1948. Edie was primarily a mother and homemaker, she did work at various secretarial jobs, then Kovels Antiques & Collectibles for 19 years. Edie was a resident of Gates Mills since 1980, previously residing in Cleveland; Newark, NY; Burlington, Ontario; and Grantsburg, Wisconsin. She was a parishioner at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church for 40 years and part of the community at Prayer Adoration for about 20 years. Edie was a member of the Mayfield Township Historical Society and Mayfield Quilting. She loved sewing, genealogy, puzzles and spending time with her family. Edie enjoyed family vacations in Nags Head and Cancun and Christmas Holiday get-togethers. She was very sociable, fair, and loved to talk with family and friends. Edie made friends easily and had friends all over the country and world from her travels with Donald over the years. She will be dearly missed.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, July 20, 2019 at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church at 10:30 AM. Burial following at All Saints Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Edie at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) FRIDAY 3-5 and 6-8 PM.
