Dr. Michael Wayne Kattan passed away on August 28th, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio. Born on July 6, 1965, he was a precocious child who loved learning, playing video games, and spending time outdoors. In his early 20s, a cancer diagnosis and treatment experience inspired him to dedicate his life to helping improve medical decision-making for individuals facing difficult diagnoses. His education and career followed a trajectory that enabled him to improve quality of life and save thousands of lives all over the world, and his medical decision-making tools are used daily in many hospitals.
He was a calm and joyful person, who prioritized what he loved: his family, his friends, his animals, and time outside. He was always eager for a bike ride, a chat and a beer, or a live music show. His mentors, colleagues, family, and friends consider themselves blessed to have known him.
Mike is survived by his two adored daughters, Madeleine (Edinburgh, Scotland) and Lily (Shaker Heights, Ohio), his loving partner, his brother Mitchell Ahmed Kattan (Dee Kattan) of Gloucester, VA, and his sister Jeanie Allen (Charlie Allen), of Cave Springs, AR.
A celebration of life will be held at the Cleveland Clinic in the Bunts Auditorium at 4:30 PM on September 5, 2024, and will be broadcasted for those unable to attend in person by clicking HERE.
Mike showed us all the joy of the open road and the importance of making the world a better place. We will miss his warmth, his generosity, his kindness, and his wicked sense of humor.
In lieu of flowers, his family invites you to donate to support infrastructure and maintenance at his “Happy Place”, the Bedford Metroparks Mountain Bike Trails by clicking HERE.
