Together Again
Dr. EDWARD P. “ED” ROGERS, aged 93 years, dearly beloved husband for 67 years to the late Elizabeth “Betty” (nee Hines), loving father of Kathryn Sanson (husband Michael), Edward P. Jr. “Ed”, Jeffrey M. (deceased) and Mary Sue (Robert Cigany), cherished grandfather of Michael E. (wife Dena) and Scott R. Sanson, fond great-grandfather of Michael Carmello Sanson (who called him “Grandpa Eddy”), step great-grandfather of Maria and Victoria, beloved son of the late William J. (first Port Director of the City of Cleveland) and Mary Freida (nee Seigler), dear brother of William F. (wife Ethel), John P. (wife Ada), Thomas J. (wife Janice), Mary K. Eisenmann (husband James), Patrick J. (wife Ida) and Daniel (all deceased), cherished uncle to 26 nieces and nephews and great-uncle.
Dr. Rogers graduated from St. Timothy’s, Cathedral Latin (class president in 1942) and Case Western Reserve, where he was in the accelerated dental program. He served as a dental officer in the Navy, stationed on-board the USS Palough, and then practiced dentistry in Cleveland for 58 years – first in the Osborn Building and later in the Hanna Building. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award for having practiced dentistry for over 50 years. He taught Anesthesia and Oral surgery for 10 years at Case Western.
His passion was his relationship with his loving wife and all their shared activities, which included golf, bridge and dancing, his family, Gesu Parish (where he ushered) and dentistry. He was an athlete, winning his boxing division at Cathedral Latin and Case and swimming awards at the YMCA with his dad. He also played football and ran track.
He was a member of Gesu Parish, the Holy Name Society and the 50+ Plus Club at Gesu, Delta Sigma Dental Fraternity, long-time member of Acacia Country Club and most recently Shaker Country Club. Ed and Betty belonged to several dance clubs and bridge clubs throughout their lifetime.
Contributions in memory of Ed may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110; or to Catholic Charities, 7911 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, OH 44102. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017 in Gesu Catholic Church at 11 AM. Private interment. Family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Ed at a luncheon held following the Mass. Arrangements entrusted to THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID.
