Doris E. Fousek (nee Schmidt) long-time resident of Willowick, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 19th at 97 years old. Doris was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1919 to Oscar Richard and Pia Mall Schmidt. She met and married Oscar Fousek in 1962. Doris unexpectedly ended up being a trailblazer – thrust into a very different life than what she had imagined when her young husband passed away, 1969. She worked part to full-time as a comptroller when most women stayed inside the home. Doris raised a beautiful and accomplished daughter during an era when single parenting wasn’t the norm. Probably most importantly, she always lived life to the fullest – dressing up and going dancing on Saturday nights well into her 80’s, modeling for her daughter and nieces that life need not slow down at 60 or 70 years old. She enjoyed Friday dinners with the Burrough’s Nature Club and lunches at the JFK Senior Center for many years. A lifelong baseball fan, she’ll be cheering from heaven for the Indians as Cleveland tries again this year to take their rightful place as champions in baseball.
Doris is the loving mother of Linda; cherished daughter of the late Oscar Richard and Pia (nee Mall) Schmidt; devoted sister of the late Richard R. Schmidt (wife Barbara) and Eugenia Baku (husband Andrew); dear aunt of Elizabeth Stickley (husband Tim), Susan Thomson (husband John) and the late Daniel Schmidt. Contributions may be made in memory of Doris to Hearts & Hammers c/o Ann Turk, 796 East 305 Street, Willowick OH 44095, Or Lake County Council On Aging 8520 East Ave, Mentor, OH 44060. Doris requested no memorial service, that family and friends remember her in their own way. Arrangements by THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS with her final resting place at Knollwood Cemetery, Mayfield Heights, Ohio.
