Dorathy A. “Dora” Kump

Dorathy (Dora) Alice Kump (nee Hiris) age 94 of Highland Heights passed away peacefully on November 2, 2019. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rudolph. She is survived by her children, Donna (Jake) Schott, Rudy (Peg) Kump, Heidi (Tim) Markt, and Dan (Joy) Kump; eight grandchildren, Beth (Steve) Kronenberg, Kate (Nolan) Bolduc, Jake (Caitlin) Schott, Bill Markt, Anne Markt, Terra Kump (fiancé Ben Edgington), Brian Kump, and Caitlin Kump; and five great grandchildren, Allie and Chase Kronenberg, Elise and Tristan Bolduc, and Reagan Schott and many nieces and nephews.

Dorathy was born near Hawley, PA, in the Pocono Mountains. She was the 10th of 11 children and was raised on a farm. She attended a one-room schoolhouse for her elementary education. After high school, she graduated from St Mary’s Nursing School in Scranton, PA, as an RN and moved to Cleveland when she married.
After raising her family, Dorathy worked at Suburban Community Hospital. She then transitioned to Hillcrest Hospital upon its opening until her retirement in 1987. She was an emergency room nurse and eventually promoted to hospital nursing supervisor.

Dorathy was a founding member of St. Paschal Baylon Church where she also volunteered in the school and as a Camp Fire Girl Leader. After her retirement, she volunteered with the Community Partners on Aging. She was a member of the Highland Heights 50 Plus Club. Dorathy was also a member of the Gottscheer Heritage Association honoring her ancestry and family origin in Austria.
Family was most important in Dorathy’s life, a value that she passed on to her children. She was known for her Thursday night dinners when the family would come together. She was a great cook and avid gardener. Dorathy had a passion for helping others and was very generous with herself and her time. She was loved by all. When anyone said “Love You” she always said “Love You More!”

Relatives and friends are requested to meet for the Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church 5384 Wilson Mills Rd, Highland Heights, OH 44143. Burial following at Lake View Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of  Dora at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) FRIDAY 3-5 & 6-8 PM.
