DONNA MARIE KUNC (nee Berman), age 76, passed away on January 12th, 2022. She was born November 1, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Norman and Rosemary (nee Mascolino) Berman. In 1950, the family moved to Homewood, Illinois, where she spent her childhood playing with the many neighborhood kids on Cowing Court. The family moved to Ohio in 1959; she attended Parma High School and then graduated from Conneaut High School in 1963, where she was active in choir, theater and bowling, and her friends fondly remember her as always good for a laugh. Donna then attended Bowling Green State University to study elementary education and graduated in 1967. She moved to Painesville after college and began her 10-year career teaching 3rd grade in the Painesville City Schools.
In 1973, Donna met Tommy, the love of her life, and they were married in August of 1974. After moving to Richmond Hts., she was active in Girl Scouts, coached her girls’ softball teams in the summer, and enjoyed volunteering with the PTA and Booster Club, where she helped run the concession stands at sporting events and chaired the After Prom committee at the high school. Donna also enjoyed camping at Tucaway Lake with her extended family during the summers: playing bocce, Boggle, and cards; grilling ribs and steaks; and telling jokes around the campfire. An avid gamer, she enjoyed everything from Pong and pinball to poker and penny slots. She followed in her mother’s footsteps by selling Avon and loved hunting for Beanie Babies to add to her epic collection. Her yearly Christmas letters showcased her flair for storytelling, brimming with details and barely fitting on one sheet of paper (front and back!). Donna spent her final years doing what she loved most: unfiltered commenting on Facebook, playing Mahjong with friends, growing her prized garlic, and spending time with her loving grandchildren and grandpup Charlie.
Donna was the beloved wife and best friend for 47 years of Tom; loving mother of Lori Kunc, Jennifer Scaletta (Mike) and stepdaughters Cheryl Knight (Don), and Gayle Siebert (Chick); dearest sister of Larry Berman (Paula); devoted Grandmother of Amanda Martin, Colleen Ward, Kathleen Ward, Keith Martin; surrogate Grandma of Victoria and Joanna Kunc; precious Nana of Jayden, Kylie and Leah Scaletta; and dear aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and cherished friend of many. She was preceded in death by her stepdaughter Diane Ward, brother Michael Berman (Judy), and sister Nancy Clifford (Jack).

Please consider a donation in memory of Donna to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the American Red Cross, of which Donna was a dedicated blood donor.
