Donald F. Johnson, born July 21, 1929, in Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away on March 22, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, service, and unwavering strength.

Donald honorably served his country in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Upon his return, he met the love of his life, Helen Mukavetz. They were married on October 2, 1954, and created a full and loving life together that lasted until Helen's death in 2022. Beyond his career, Donald was a kind and caring neighbor, as well as a devoted volunteer in the community, sharing his passion for water safety by teaching swimming and lifesaving skills at the West End YMCA in Willoughby.

Donald found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as caring for his beautiful home of 54 years in Willoughby, baking bread, and reading, He cherished the peace and solace he found in nature, and throughout his life spent as much time as possible outdoors. In his youth he enjoyed horseback riding and later spent many years boating on Lake Erie and cross-country skiing. He was also an avid gardener and long-standing member of the Holden Arboretum, where he spent many happy hours wandering the paths and gardens. Donald was a voracious reader, and never outgrew his lifelong love of learning. Donald and Helen cherished their vacations at Ocean City, Maryland, and Later Emerald Isle, North Carolina, making lifelong memories. He also had a deep love for animals, always sharing his home with beloved cats and dogs.

Donald is survived by his three daughters: Barbara Flood (Allen), Judy Dunn (Tim), and Nancy Johnson (Robbie Gilmore Jr). He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Kayla (Brendan), Ana, Kevin, Robert (Abbi), and Erik (Sarah). He was blessed with one great grandchild, Liam.
