Diamond T. Charnas

DIAMOND T. CHARNAS (nee Thomas), aged 97 years, beloved wife of the late Nicholas, dearest mother of Bradford (Paulette Moylan), Douglas (Marianne Chaconas), Elaine Maier (James) and Laurel Charnas Schiller (Todd), loving YiaYia of Ian and Alex Charnas, Christina Busch and Liz Maier-Liu, great-grandmother of Kailie Charnas and Nicholas and Augustine Busch, cherished sister of the late Sultana Lulias and Dorothy Patrinos.

Born in Youngstown in 1922 to Greek Immigrant parents, Diamond was very proud of her heritage.

She was married for 52 years to Nicholas Charnas of Warren, Ohio.

First and foremost, Diamond was dedicated to her family. She would say “family is family, is family.” She always stood up for her family and applied her “pearls of wisdom” to smooth the way.

Raising “good solid citizens” was the most important job in her life. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandma Diamond was one of several family members that stepped in to help take care of her grandchildren after their mother passed away early in their lives.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, writing poetry, classical music and gardening. One of her favorite pastimes was sharing her Greek baking skills with her children, grandchildren and friends.

If you knew Diamond, she loved to talk and tell stories.

Diamond was interested in people’s experiences, and was always analyzing how people thought and how they would respond to a given circumstance. She had great insight!

Sts. Constantine and Helen Cathedral was her second home. She was one of the founding members. Diamond taught Sunday school and was an active member of the Daughters of Penelope and the Church Library.

We will surely miss all her wonderful stories and selfless love that she provided to so many.

In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3352 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118. Funeral services and burial will be private. Interment Lake View Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID.
