DAVID B. SHILLMAN, ESQ age 78, of Gates Mills, passed away suddenly on July 27, 2013. David was born on July 16, 1935 in Sumter, SC to the late Rabbi Samuel R. Shillman and Henriette E. (nee Bluthenthal).
In 1953 David attended Phillips Exeter Academy in NH, graduating Cum Laude and then the University of Harvard, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1957. He went on to Law School also at the University of Harvard obtaining his Jurist Doctorate degree in 1960 and admitted to the bars in Virginia and Ohio in 1961.
David was the law director for Highland Heights, Mayfield Village, Chester Township, Russell and Bainbridge as a well as a general practitioner and was still practicing.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years the former Dorothy Brueggemeyer; children David (wife Susan) of Maryland, Margaret Keim ( husband John) of Cincinnati, OH and Rebecca Valbuena (husband Larry) of California; grandchildren Madelaina, Celia, Raeline, Audrey, Katherine and Elizabeth; brother-in-law to Barbara and Jack Gibson, Marilyn and Robert Warner, Carl Dale and Vilma Brueggemeyer, Diane “Annie” Nolan, Carol and Tom Seedle; uncle of Patrick Carl Friel (Amy), Karen Louise Burton (Bill), Kim M. Sheehe, James K. Mylen (Nicole), Michael Mylen (Jodie), Vicki Orzen (Gabriel), Adrianne Fazio (Mark), Renee DiSanto (David), Sarah Wantz and great uncle to 12.
David will be remembered for his devotion and love of his family and friends. He was a respected attorney for 53 years and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet for a Memorial Mass Saturday, August 10, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 6850 Mayfield Road, Gates Mills at 10:00 AM. Private burial service was held on July 30, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in South Euclid.
In lieu of flowers any contributions received will be use to sponsor a child in David’s memory with the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.
Dorothy is so grateful to all the friends of David and the blessings that they brought to his life. “Thank you to all for the loving memories and prayers.”
