David Mason

David John Mason, 71, of Mayfield Village, OH, formerly of Fayetteville, NC, and Beaver, PA, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 13, 1944, in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Wilbur F. and Elizabeth R. (nee Hornsby) Mason and spent his childhood in Beaver, PA.

David graduated from Beaver High School in 1962 and attended Hiram University before becoming a Licensed Social Worker and earning his degrees from Penn State Indiana University.

David had a private counseling practice in Fayetteville, NC for many years. He moved to Mayfield Village 12 years ago and worked for the Positive Education Program (PEP).

David was an avid sportsman and played all types of recreational sports for many years. He was a gifted athlete. David also dabbled in speed boat racing. He loved to coach, especially little league baseball. He was an avid reader and loved spending time with his family and friends. Some of his most memorable times were his summer vacations at Geneva on the Lake and Atwood Lodge.

David was very witty and had a great sense of humor. His family described him as a very easy going man who was patient, generous and good hearted man that will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his companion Carolyn Lorber; children Kelly O’Dea Mason (Don Pigott), Jessica Edleman (Mike), Scott David Mason (Samantha Bates) and Natalie Kahn (Joseph); grandchildren Ozzy Herbruck, Lillith and William Kahn, Jordan Edleman and Brody Mason; brothers of William, Jim (Linda deceased) and Frank; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, July 8, 2016 at 2 pm at the Funeral Home. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of David at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) FRIDAY 12- 2 PM. Cremation by DeJohn Crematory.
