Cornelius Joseph Fields, Jr.

Cornelius Joseph Fields, Jr., “Nick”, longtime Euclid resident, passed away at the Hospice of Western Reserve on Sunday November, 21 2021 at the age of 79. Nick was born August 7, 1942 in Louisville Kentucky to Neil and Martha Fields.

He was a 1960 graduate of Euclid High School and attended Mount Saint Mary’s College in Maryland. After college, Nick served in the U.S. Navy as a sonarman on the USS Hector, completing two tours to the South China Sea during the Vietnam War.

Following the Navy he had a successful career as a truck dispatcher for Signal Delivery (Sears). Returning to Euclid, Nick worked for the more than 20 years for Buyers products in Mentor, Ohio. He is survived by sisters Martha Gardner (husband Michael) of Maryland and Joan Danford (husband William) of Connecticut.  Nick was a loving “Uncle Buck” to his 7 nieces and nephews and their families often traveling to the East coast for family events. Dennis and Michael Bathory were treasured life-long friends. Nick was an avid Cleveland Sports fan with an incredible memory for sports facts. His hobby was handicapping race horses, traveling to 5 Preakness and 2 Belmont races. At the track he lived by a Winston Churchill saying, “Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm”.

Services will be held privately at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, hospicewr.org.
