CHARLOTTE J. TAYLOR (nee Bremner), aged 94 years, the beloved wife of the late William McKinley Taylor and loving daughter of the late William George Bremner and Annabella Elrich Bremner of Aberdeen, Scotland, died peacefully at Fairmount Health Center – Breckenridge Village on April 2, 2010. She is survived by her sister Barbara Bremner Jalovec (John – deceased) and nieces and nephews Junior Jay (Elizabeth), Barbara Clark (Wade), Rose Ann Kubicek, William Taylor (Lee Ann), Dorothy Mitchell (Donald – deceased), James Taylor (Barbara – deceased), June Belitz and Alan Taylor (Barbara). Charlotte was the favorite aunt and grand-aunt to her nieces and nephews, her friends, and to their many children and grand-children.
Charlotte Taylor’s blue eyes twinkled when she smiled, and Charlotte Taylor smiled a lot. She smiled as she told her many friends and family tales of her childhood days as Charlotte Bremner, sleeping under the piano as a tiny child at the Burns Night celebrations, living her teen years in what is now the Western Reserve Historial Museum. She smiled as she remembered her days working at Halle’s, where she met and fell in love with tall, handsome Bill Taylor. They were married in 1947 and lived happily together until his death in 1973.
“Shotsy,” as many of us knew her, was so very proud of her Scottish heritage. Burns Night was an annual tradition, and she traveled to Scotland for a visit in 1992, reuniting with her cousin, Jean Bremner, in Aberdeen, Scotland. She had a basket of dolls in kilts for children who came to her house. Children loved Charlotte, probably because of the special attention she paid them, her willingness to play jacks on the floor even at 90, and the fact that she always made sure to have their favorite soda waiting in the fridge. Somehow Charlotte managed to have just the right Christmas gift in just the right size for countless children every year.
Charlotte Taylor had style. Whether golfing with her friends, dancing at weddings, or attending a meeting of the Western Reserve Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star (she was an Eastern Star member since 1937!), she had just the right outfit, down to the perfect accessories. Charlotte could make an ordinary day feel like a celebration with her contagious laugh and eye-twinkling smile. I’m sure that you have a favorite Charlotte story.
In her long career at Halle Bros., Charlotte presented style shows and managed several departments. She was Activity Director for Schnurman-Luther House and culminated her career with 12 years at Benjamin Rose Institute. She was proud of her 76 year membership in the Order of the Eastern Star – Western Reserve Chapter #71.
In lieu of flowers, Charlotte requested contributions to Breckenridge Village Life-Care Fund, 36851 Ridge Rd., Willoughby, OH. 44094, or to a charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial following in Acacia Memorial Park.
