CARL JOSEPH GOSTOLA, JR. age 76, beloved husband for 47 years of Kathryn (nee Pagels); loving father of Cheryl Badovick (husband Joshua) and Carl J. III (wife Bridget); devoted grandfather of Noah Lyle Badovick, Elijah Joseph Badovick, and Echo Sunshine Gostola; cherished son of the late Carl J. Sr. and Helen (nee Horvath); dearest brother of Jessica Spenner (husband David) and the late Deborah Gostola. Carl is survived by his K-9 pals Butch and Rocky.
Carl was born on April 11, 1940 in South Bend, Indiana and passed away on July 4, 2016. He was a resident of Chardon for 30 years, formerly of Berrien Springs, Michigan. Carl graduated from Washington Clay High School and Indiana University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. Carl worked for Studebaker in South Bend, Indiana and was involved with the Parks & Recreation in Berrien Springs. Carl worked as a Service Warranty Manager with Clark Equipment, Euclid, and Hitachi. He loved golf, bowling, NASCAR and Notre Dame University. Carl loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a true Hungarian, loved his Hungarian heritage and enjoyed listening to music from the old country. Carl will be remembered by family and friends as an outgoing, giving, funny and determined man. He had a great sense of humor and was ‘the voice’ at F.M.C.C.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in Carl’s memory to F.M.C.C. Cherished Memories c/o FirstMerit Bank to help with their goal of presenting quilts to local veterans to commemorate their service. Donations may also be made in Carl’s memory to Geauga County Dog Shelter & Warden’s Office 12513 Merrit Rd., Chardon, OH 44024.
Cremation by DeJohn Crematory. Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors Sunday July 17, 2016 at 4 PM at THE FUNERAL HOME. Private interment at Union Cemetery in Berrien Center, Michigan. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Carl at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) SUNDAY 2-4 PM.
