Beverly A. Steinert (93) of Mayfield Heights, Ohio, passed away January 1, 2015 at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Beverly was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 8, 1921 to the late Edwin (Edward) Steinert and Helen Hickson (nee Gilmore). Besides her parents, Beverly was preceded in death by her step-father James R. Hickson and her companion dog Brandy.
She graduated from Schenley High School, then earned her R. N. nursing diploma at St. Francis General Hospital.
Beverly was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WW II. She provided nursing services to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Following her service to her country, Beverly attended the University of Pittsburgh and obtained her Bachelor of Nursing degree and then obtained her Masters in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University.
In 1948, Beverly’s education took her to work as a medical surgical instructor for Huron Road Hospital in East Cleveland and then to Mt. Sinai Hospital. Beverly had a very long distinguished nursing career serving many hospitals and nursing homes as their Director of Nursing.
Beverly was an avid reader and religiously studied the Bible. Her knowledge of the Bible, lead her to conduct adult Bible study. Our Savior Lutheran Church recognized her love, knowledge and dedication and presented her with an honorary servant award.
She enjoyed watching all sports but was a dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Beverly’s love did not stop there because twice a day, she would make sure the squirrels and birds were fed.

A tribute service with military honors will be Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at 11:30am at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Burial Saturday at Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Beverly at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD ROAD (just east of Green Road) THURSDAY 4-8 P.M. and at Our Savior Lutheran Church FRIDAY 10 – 11:30am.
