Bennie Martin

BENNIE C. MARTIN, SR., 86, of Chardon, passed away suddenly at the UH Geauga Medical Center.  Born May 13, 1929 in Columbus, Mississippi, Mr. Martin has been a resident of Chardon for the past 28 years after moving from Warrensville Heights. He was a crane operator for Midland Steel for 22 years.

Bennie loved watching sporting events, especially the Cleveland Indians, doing yard work and spending time with his grandson. He is described by his family as a “happy go lucky” guy that was very kind and loved his family.

Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Carrie E. (nee Lowe); daughter Bettie Wilson; son Bennie C., Jr.; grandson Demetrius Atwater and great grand-children Andre, Devonte and Tiana Atwater.

Bennie was preceded in death by his son Ezzard Charles; parents Buck and Annie Laura (nee Iron) Martin; brothers Willie E. Martin, Dezzie Martin and Willie B. Martin; sister Annie Ruth Martin and son-in-law Vea Wilson.

Private graveside services will be held at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon, Ohio. Arrangements by DeJohn Funeral Home and Crematory of Chardon (formerly Ritondaro), 126 South Street (Route 44, south of Route 6/Chardon Square).
