Benedict A. “Ben” Burger, 86, died peacefully at his home May 1, 2015. He was a 40-year resident of Willoughby Hills previously living in Cleveland.
Ben was born on February 21, 1929 to the late Emma (Karl) and Frank Burger. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict as an aerial photographer. He retired from the Plain Dealer after 30 years as a Photo Engraver. Ben enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable gardening, boating and was a private pilot. He loved spending time with his grandkids, flying his planes and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Arlene (Jacobs), daughter Kim (Robert) McCready and son Steven (Karin) of CA; grandchildren Alex, Adam, Eric, Amber and Mitch in Ohio, and Shane, Cody, Justin and Nathan in California; sister Alice Bloom and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Burger was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Alfred, Barney, Fran Milcarek, Arthur “Boots”, Helen Kaple, Dorothy Curran, Joanne Long, John and Marie Burger.
At his request private family services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cremation by DeJohn Crematory. Arrangements by DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills.
